The Bench of General Mariusz Zaruski

At the entrance to the pier stands a memorial bench dedicated to General Mariusz Zaruski. The bench sculpture depicts the general in the uniform of a deep-sea captain. Unveiled on 16 April 2014, the bench was designed by Stanisław Szwechowicz, Gdańsk-based sculptor.

Mariusz Zaruski, the district staroste of Puck from 1926 to 1927, is a legendary figure among maritime enthusiasts.

After retiring from the Polish Army as a brigadier general of the Polish Army in 1926, he devoted himself to educating and mentoring young people in seafaring. He initiated the founding of the Maritime and Colonial League and the National Fleet Committee. Contributions collected by this Committee helped to purchase a training ship called “Dar Pomorza”.
